Self Build Conservatories
A conservatory is a great way to extend the space of your home, while adding a bit of style and excitement to the overall look of the place. Conservatory’s let you create an additional area where you and your family can relax and lounge about in the day or laze about at night, under the stars at an affordable cost. Conservatories have plenty of safe space for kids to play in and can even be converted into work or party spaces when needed.
DIY Conservatories are made up of a variety of material, which you can choose from depending on your own taste and the existing colours and style of your home, although wood and glass are the most popular. There are many kinds of conservatories you can choose from, wooden conservatories, sun lounge conservatories, garden conservatories, Edwardian conservatories, Victorian conservatories, bespoke conservatories and many, many more.
Building a conservatory yourself using a do-it-yourself conservatory, is more fun than hiring someone to do it. This allows families to tailor this exciting new space according to their family size and habits, while being as creative as they want. There are many places where you can get all the supplies you need, to build your very own conservatory at much lower cost than trade prices.Building the conservatory yourself will also help you save a lot on additional labour costs. A lot of companies also supply you with information pamphlets and help line numbers, where you can call anytime and ask for assistance should you face problems putting things up.
With that reassurance in mind, the first step is to decide what style of conservatory you want. Examine your house and try to figure out what type and size would best suit your home. The sun lounge conservatory or the lean to conservatory is the easiest and least costly out of all the styles, and works with pretty much any space as opposed to the Victorian and Edwardian that need full height glass walls. Lean to conservatories are also attached to one wall of the house so getting water, heat or electricity supply is easier and cheaper. Lean to conservatories utilizes minimum materials, as one side is already part of the house and the remaining does not need much.
If you have a huge garden that changes colours splendidly all through the year, than go for a p-style conservatory. Costlier than the lean to, this can be built to cover up some awkward corner in the garden or anywhere you feel it looks good. Many stores carry base walls with matching bricks so the work is pretty hassle free. Decide which style you want to go for, purchase your DIY conservatory material and start! A p-shaped conservatory looks great all year round and if you go for netted screens in some upper windows you will get circulation, without the bugs.
If the weather tends to get too hot or too cold then consider going for a smaller Edwardian design or a pavilion conservatory, as equipping a large p-shaped conservatory with heaters or air conditioning will be quite burdensome on the electricity bill.
There are many companies today that are producing high quality, affordable conservatory material with a lot of variety. Most require no drilling or screwing and come glazed, along with panel locks that make putting your own conservatory together a breeze! Some companies also provide a step by step dvd, which have very user friendly installation guides. There are also a variety of colors such as white, mahogany and light oak available at most conservatory retailers. So have fun building your very own sun room!
